The Treats to Avoid While You Align Your Smile With Braces
Treats can be very desirable at times, especially when you have braces because it’s recommended to avoid eating most treats. However, even though this is the case, it’s best to avoid eating the treats so your braces can remain in tip-top shape and you can stay on track with your treatment plan. All in all, there are three treats our Werschky & Lewis Family Dentistry dental team strongly recommends avoiding. Those treats are:
Sticky candies are the worst products for your braces, which is why we strongly advise against eating caramel. Caramel tends to stick to your teeth and braces when you eat it and it is very difficult to clean. The sticky candy can also alter the condition of your braces by clinging to a bracket and breaking it. If your brackets break, your treatment time will be delayed.
Saltwater taffy is another treat that is extremely sticky, which is why it is so harmful to your braces. However, it is also harmful to your teeth. Not only will it break your brackets, but it can also create tooth decay in your smile. So, for a strong oral health and orthodontic appliance, please do not eat saltwater taffy when you have braces.
The kernels in popcorn are what make this treat so harmful. As you eat the little white puffs, the kernels can get lodged between your teeth and braces and they can easily break your appliance. This can also cause further orthodontic complications that we recommend you avoid. So, no matter the flavor of the popcorn, we strongly suggest staying away from this treat.
It’s best to avoid these treats and do everything you can to avoid delaying your treatment time.
