Implants vs. Bridges

Have you ever known someone who was missing a tooth? Did you know that a missing tooth can actually lead to a number of problems? For example, if you’re missing a tooth, you could struggle to chew or to speak properly. Missing a tooth can also be embarrassing and can make smiling uncomfortable. Fortunately, there are a number of things you might be able to do if you’re interested in replacing a missing tooth.

An implant is one option you should consider. Implants are extremely useful because of their durability. Like other restorations, implants are designed to look and feel like natural teeth, but if you care for your implant well, they could last for decades. In fact, many patients who have an implant never need to have it replaced.

If you’re missing multiple teeth, an implant may not be the best option for you. Instead, we recommend considering the benefits of a dental bridge. Bridges are attached to a natural tooth, or to an implant. This makes bridges extremely sturdy. Bridges are also useful because one bridge can be used to replace up to three teeth. While not as durable as implants, bridges can last for up to ten years.

There are other options you can consider for replacing missing teeth. If you’re interested in learning more about the benefits of a bridge, an implant, or any of your other restoration options, please don’t hesitate to give Werschky, Lewis & Slatton Family Dentistry a call at (810) 671-5616.
