Taking Steps at Home to Improve Your Oral Health

Did you know there are things you can do at home to improve your oral health? If not, now is the time to learn! Dentists today strongly recommend participating in a daily oral hygiene routine at home if you wish to have a strong and healthy oral cavity. You oral hygiene routine should include the following tasks:

• Brushing your teeth: Brushing your teeth every morning when you wake up and every night before you go to bed is the perfect way to clean your teeth and eliminate harmful substances. Dentists recommend brushing your teeth for two minutes twice a day and spending an equal amount of time brushing each quadrant of your mouth (about 30 seconds). Make sure you thoroughly clean each tooth, and if it’s possible, use fluoride toothpaste.

• Flossing your teeth: When you floss your teeth once a day, all of the access food particles that are stuck between your teeth are freed. This eliminates the chances of having decayed and infected teeth. Use about 45 cm of floss and wrap each end around both of your pointer fingers. Then, gently lower the floss between each tooth, scraping every side. Make sure to floss between each tooth, especially the back teeth, and use a clean section of floss as you clean each tooth.

• Using mouthwash: If you use fluoride mouthwash or bacteria-fighting mouthwash, your oral cavity will be nourished and strengthened often. Take a sip of the rinse and swish it around in your mouth for about 30-40 seconds. When the time has passed, spit the liquid into the sink.
